Abstract	Migration refers to the ability of an artificial companion to transfer itself from one embodiment to another (e.g. from a mobile phone to a robot). Here we discuss the advantages and potential of such technology for the digital economy of the future. We also present some of the research challenges involved in producing migrating companions and discuss how we address them within our work in the EU FP7 project LIREC.
